Notes:	The event is supposed to have occurred about the year 538 (see Acta Sanctorum, 4 Feb.). Originally written in Greek (in the 6th cent.) and ascribed to Eutychianus, one of the Household of Theophilus; and translated (in the 9th cent.) by Paul the Deacon of Naples (II, 595).
Summary:	How Theophilus, Vicedominus (or Oeconomus) of the Church of Adana (near Tarsus), in Cilicia, was deposed from his office; how he signed a compact with the Devil; and how he repented, and regained possession of the compact by the help of the Virgin (II, 595).
