Summary: How Rollo the Norman, when besieging Chartres, was encountered by the Bishop, ‘Walchelinus’ with the Virgin’s shift displayed as a banner; and how he and his men were struck with blindness; but how, when the Christians behaved cruelly, the shift disappeared, and the Normans recovered their sight ( II, 603).
