Commentary: | Notes from Snow 1977, no. 68: "Title is rather misleading. The cantiga in question - CSM 94 - is more a point of departure. The general theme, later treated by Lope and Zorrilla, has three examples in Alfonso's work: CSM 55, 94, and 285. Each has a French original, respectively an adaptation of Caesarius von Heisterbach, an account by Gautier de Coincy, and a selection from the Vie des pères. Similar and/or parallel themes are encountered in CSM 58, 59, 63, and 216 (pp. 37-60). Noteworthy more for its breadth than its depth." | ||
