Snow 2007: "Interesting for two unusual claims. The first of these, in concord with Sarmiento (1775), states that Alfonso X is the author of the Tesoro (pp. 185-7). The second is supported by a search for musical notation in secular song in use before the CSM, a search which yields no example (the examples found all were liturgical texts): Andrés is led, therefore, to conclude, and may have been the first to so state, that Alfonso must have been inspired by the musical and poetic customs of the Arabs." |
