Snow 1977, no. 54: "In what MMP terms the first public review of the Academy edition of the CSM, he manages to describe the prior history of these poems briefly and accurately. The discussion, occupying the first third of the critical evaluation, is a fine picture of the situation and influence of Galician in the context of other literary idioms of the times of Alfonso. Unhesitatingly, he declares Alfonso to be sole author of this "Biblia estética del siglo XIII". The final part is a subtle appreciation of Valmar's work, including cavils about cost, lack of accessibility (only 300 were printed), and size (too unwieldy)." |
