Commentary: Snow 2007: "R's claim to have studied the works of Abencuzmán in the light of the works of the troubadours and the trouveres, the CSM, Juan Ruiz, etc., while it may be true, is made very little of here. R. makes far too much of some strophic similarities and lacks specific proofs for the kinds of influence he would like to demonstrate. One can see here the seeds of most of his later claims for Arabic influences (metrical and musical) in the compositions of France, Spain, and Portugal."
