Snow 2007: "The first chapters constitute a partisan defense of the stature of Galician letters and is not at all scholarly by today's standards. The latter chapters, organized around the types of stanzaic forms employed in Galician-Portuguese poetry, and frequently using Alfonso's CSM as examples (the profane poems here attributed still to Alfonso IX of León are also Alfonso X's), stress the valid point (D. C. Clarke will make it again in 1955) that the CSM possesses forerunners of all the verse forms used in later Castilian poetry (see especially pp. 178 and 235)." |
