Snow 2007: "Alfonso was a bibliophile and book production was important to him: his artists — working in teams — were required to be skilled visual narrators as well (a theme later developed in studies by Keller, Scarborough, and others). These alfonsine 'styles' were eclectic and the artists themselves were Spanish. There are two black and white plates from Escorial T.I.1 and one from the Florence manuscript." |
