Snow ID:
Commentary: Snow 1977, no. 186: "Pages 26-31 describe the musical court of Alfonso and speak of its richness. A. feels that the depictions of Arabic musicians do nothing to show that they were composers as well as instrumentalists. Students of music will benefit from an illuminating discussion (pp. 36-50) of the notation and rhythms of the CSM. Alfonso as musician is also seriously discussed (pp. 50-3), and the musical sources of the poems are mentioned (pp. 53). The reverberations of his own studies on Alfonsine music that have affected modern musicology close this condensation of many years of work by Anglés on the CSM."
