Snow 1977, no. 256: "A brief résumé of much that is useful from his magnum opus (1949). Plates are accompanied by notes. CSM featured in the plates are: 1, 2, 9, 12, 24, 28, 32, 35, 44, 46, 228, 59, 64, 74, 87, 94, 99, 103, 107, 108, 124, 126, 130 (depicting Alfonso), 137-8, 142 (depicting Alfonso), 143-4, 154, 169, 158, and 175. All are from MS T.j.1 (of the Escurial), except for 228 which comes from the Florence MS (cantiga 88). The art itself stresses the disposition of material and is eclectic in technique. The artists, Guerrero theorizes, were itinerant, perhaps travelling with Alfonso's court." |
