Snow 1977: "A sequel to Bertolucci Pizzorusso's article (1966). Has five parts: 1) an exposition of the poetic background of Alfonso's era; 2) an appreciation of Bertolucci's edition; 3) a paraphrase of both the Supplicatio and the Declaratio; 4) a neat explication of the moral content and its implications for the transitional social and cultural age depicted therein; and 5) a philosophical foray into the texts which both emends and extends the readings and judgements of Bertolucci. The appendix to this study is an edition, freshly re-punctuated, which is Vuolo's own view of the two works that he has come to know so thoroughly." |
