Snow 1977: "The title is promising but the book is disappointing. Only one cantiga is discussed at any length (Rodrigues Lapa 33) and a few others are briefly taken up (nos 10, 14, 17, 23, 11, and 7) but with no critical assessment. The study is fleshed out with rhetorical questions (see the chapter on Alfonso and his grandson Dinis of Portugal) which are maddeningly unproductive." |
