Notes from Snow 1977: "Many of the CSM are individually treated here, most in very brief fashion. Especially pinpointed are cantigas 351, 354, 178 (the latter two for their treatment of children and animals, of which Alfonso is said to have been very fond), and 205, for its psychological depth of understanding. The article is discursive and seems to lack a central theme, preferring to touch diverse topics almost at will. Cases in which one would expect some argument to be offered include the claims that Alfonso clearly knew Berceo's poems (p. 72), that Alfonso authored all of the CSM (p. 72, and p.91, n. 8), and that the miracles themselves are the sole theme of the compilation, i.e., that other sub themes do not form part of it." |
