Summary of narrative | |||
Setting: | unspecified | Protagonist(s): | a priest |
A priest was devoted to the Virgin. Once he became lost and met a boy who offered to guide him and to protect him. The priest gave the boy some money, but the lad betrayed him and led him to a gang of thieves. They stole the priest’s belongings, stripped him of his clothes, and threw him into a pit. The priest called on the Virgin and she caused him to come to rest in a hollow in the pit, instead of falling to the bottom. The thieves threw stones into the pit, but none harmed the priest. After covering up the hole, they fled. Some shepherds, hearing the priest’s cries, rescued him from the pit. |
