Summary of narrative | |||
Setting: | Constantinople | Protagonist(s): | some blocks of marble |
The Emperor don Manuel ordered a very noble church to be built in Constantinople. He had marble blocks brought there from distant places. These were sawn in two and used to face the altar consecrated to the Virgin. While they were sawing one of them, they discovered an image of the Virgin holding her son in her arms. [lacuna] When the Emperor heard the news, he rode to the church, saw the image, and ordered it to be placed above the main entrance. It still stands there today and everyone venerates it. |
