Snow 2007: "Scenes of painters mixing colors (CSM 136), painting murals (CSM 74) and ceilings (CSM 99): these are evidence of Alfonso's taste in finely-produced work. The paintings discussed briefly here are from the miniatures of CSM 9, 34, and 46. A curious document from the Siete Partidas, quoted here, proves Alfonso's deep concern for ownership rights of 'pintura sobre tabla.' Some of these ideas are more amply discussed in a later study [1979]." |
