Setting: | unspecified (mention of Rocamadour) | Protagonist(s): | a captive knight |
A knight was captured, bound in chains, and held for ransom in prison. The knight’s lord failed to redeem him, so the knight prayed to the Virgin to release him. The Virgin appeared to the knight and broke his bonds. She led him from the prison and no one obstructed him, although many people saw him leave. The Virgin told the knight to go to Rocamadour, which he did, although his captors pursued him. The knight hung the chains at Rocamadour and told the monks of the miracle. |
