Summary of narrative | |||
Setting: | Terena | Protagonist(s): | a priest |
A priest lived near the Virgin’s shrine at Terena. One day he preached a sermon, warning the people not to go to Terena or to make offerings there. He threatened to excommunicate anyone who dared to go there on the Virgin’s feast in August. As he was saying these things, his mouth became twisted to such an extent that he could not speak or sing the mass, but only bleat like a goat. In addition, his limbs were paralysed so that he was rooted to the spot. This happened because he had scorned the Virgin. Everyone praised the Virgin and feared her even more from that time forth. The priest repented and recovered. He made an offering at Terena. |
