Summary of narrative | |||
Setting: | Treviño and Vilasirga | Protagonist(s): | a knight and his goshawk |
In Treviño, there was a knight who was a hunter. He had a goshawk that killed all kinds of birds and flew with matchless grace and speed. One day, when the knight was hunting partridge, he lost the goshawk. He looked for it all day and sent his men to search for it, but it could not be found. The knight was so upset about this that he cried and thought he would go crazy. He searched for the bird for four months and finally had a wax image made in its likeness. He took the image to Vilasirga and placed it on the altar, praying to the Virgin. When he returned home, he discovered the bird seated on its accustomed perch. He prostrated himself on the ground, praising the Virgin. Then he took the hawk in his hand. |
