Setting: Constantinople Protagonist(s): the citizens of Constantinople

Some Moorish warriors, with a large fleet, laid siege to Constantinople. They gained control of the river, and cut off the citizen’s water supply.

The people took solace in a miraculous portrait of the Virgin that had been painted from life by St Luke.

A knight, trusting in the Virgin, had the image placed on the shore. After it had been placed there, the people prayed to the Virgin to defend them from the Moors.

Then, raising their hands to heaven, they tossed the image into the sea.

At once, the ships of the Moors sank.

The people gave thanks to the Virgin.
