A man stubbed his toe on a rock and began to moan and disparage his faith. He blamed the devil for putting the rock in his path. Raging, he said that since the devil was so powerful, he would serve him rather than God. As soon as he had said this, the man was blinded and paralysed. He fell to the ground in great pain and could not get up. The man’s relatives carried him home and laid him in his bed. He lay there for a long time, praying to God to pardon his sins. On Easter, when the bell for matins was sounding, a lady appeared to him. She told him that he would be cured if he had himself placed before her altar. He had himself taken there straightaway, and was cured by the Virgin. |
