Summary of narrative | |||
Setting: | On the way to Montserrat | Protagonist(s): | two pilgrims to Montserrat |
A man used to go on pilgrimage to Montserrat two or three times a year. He and a friend, a burgher, decided to go together on the Feast of the Assumption. The men passed through Barcelona. A storm arose and the faithful pilgrim was hit by lightening and killed. His companion wept and said that his friend had wasted his time and money on the Virgin. The man struck by lightening was revived and chided his friend for doubting the Virgin. He said that if she had not interceded for him, he would be in hell. People who witnessed the miracle praised the Virgin. |
