Notes from Snow 1977, no. 288: "A. publishes new musical transcriptions for the six Montserrat cantigas: CSM 48, 52, 57, 113, 302, and 311. The versions edited by Sunyol (1924), and which had been transcribed by Anglés's teacher Friedrich Ludwig, are not faithful enough to the Alfonsine MSS. Since all six have virelai melodies, similar to Catalan folk dance songs of the thirteenth century, A. wonders whether he ought to conclude that this is a felicitous coincidence or, perhaps, a deliberate occurrence. He is right to do so. In addition to the faithful transcriptions there is a facsimile of the music, text, and the miniatures of CSM 52 from Escurial MS T.j.l." |
