Snow 2007: "A balanced view of the Jew in the literature and life of the mid-thirteenth century. For the CSM, this article does much to redress the more one-sided presentation of a prejudiced Alfonso X maded by Bagby [1970, 1971, 1979]. The portrait of the Jew, while largely traditional and inherited, still manages — in both texts and miniatures — to reflect other, more contemporary sources (Berceo's Milagros; legal codes; conciliar decrees, and the like). Convincing illustrations of the authors' arguments come from CSM 348, 3, 4, 6, 12, 25, 27, 85, 89, 107, 108, and 109." |
