Setting: Britain Protagonist(s): a widow’s son

A widow had a son whom she dedicated to the Virgin. He sang very well, especially the song Gaude Virgo Maria.

The boy’s busking attracted attention and people rewarded him with food so that he could provide for himself and his mother.

On a feast day, the boy’s singing incensed a Jewish man. The Jew abducted him, killed him with an axe, and buried him in his wine cellar.

His mother went looking for the boy and was told that he had gone off with the Jewish man.

She ran to the house, accompanied by a crowd of people, and heard the boy singing the song, Gaude Maria, even though he was still buried in the cellar.

They rescued him and he explained that the Virgin had revived him. The people killed all the Jews and threw the boy’s murderer into a fire.
