Commentary: Notes from Snow 1977, no. 297rn"The fullest biography and the best. Lack of an index hampers the user. However, students of Alfonsine poetry will find, usually in an historical context, curious notes on cantigas 221 (pp. 16-17), 169 and 328 (pp. 279-80, 332), 328 alone (p.283), 354, 366, 376, and 377 (pp.299-305), Prol. A and 183 (pp. 319-20), 325 (p. 588), 323 (pp. 761-3), 235 (pp. 771, 787-9, and 811), 300 (p. 777), 215 and 406 (pp. 834-5), and 386 (pp. 951-3). CV 77 and 79 are discussed briefly on pp. 813-14 and there is a section entitled "La corte y los juglares" on pp. 345-56. Maria Balteira appears on p. 381 and much contemporary praise of Alfonso as poet and protector of poets is quoted on pp. 503-8."
