Setting: | unspecified | Protagonist(s): | unspecified [King Alfonso X--This cantiga is written in the present tense in the first person.] |
A devotee of the Virgin, who sang her praises, suffered an agonising illness that made him cry out in pain. He prayed to the Virgin to have mercy on him. He acknowledged that she was the best of all of God’s Creation. He confessed that he feared dying of the illness, which had him in its grip. He looked as green as [cloth made in] Cambrai. The Virgin took away his fever and evil humour. |
