Title: El arte mayor de Juan de Mena

Publication details: Anales de la Universidad de Chile, 118 (1906), 179-200.
Snow ID:
Commentary: Snow 2007: "In severe disagreement with G. Baist about the nature and development of the arte mayor verse, H. defends the presence of the quebrado line as a possible outgrowth of such catalectic practices as those employed by Alfonso X (CSM 422, 100) and recognized in the metrical works of Encina. Other CSM that are adduced for their syllabic suppression and hypermetric variants are 14, 8, 99, 132, 29, 59, To 79 [=405], 310, 2, 350, 33, and 135. The use of the half-line, or quebrado, appears in CSM 46, 106, 340, and 46. H. speaks cautiously, though, as actualized musical treatment may in fact modify some of his assertions."
