A novice priest of Chartres was a gambler and a thief. Whenever he saw an image of the Virgin he always prayed to it. He died unconfessed. He was not buried within the churchyard. The Virgin appeared to a priest and chided him, telling him to bury the novice in hallowed ground. The priests discovered that the novice had a flower like a lily growing out of his mouth. |
